Dick riding DJ's

Greetings folks... I know I know this blog is supposed to be for reviews on DJ's but there's something I need to address...... DJ's who can't find their own thing to run with. If you guys wanna jock someone else's style or sound at least give them credit in the process. Show love to those who are putting in all the work you're getting credit for! Trap or crap?

Hey folks it's been a while! I took a break from blogging since it was drawing too much negative attention, but I feel its time to dive back in head first! With that being said lets get down to business here.

Trap music seems to be the new trend for DJ's in SL. Before I get into my actual break down of trap lets discuss DJ's and following trends. As a DJ it's your duty to hand pick every song you play. You're responsible for controlling the crowds entertainment. You're supposed to set the tone and stay original at all times. Following trends shows lack of originality and leaves those of us who aren't mindless drones to wonder if you're just another generic DJ. Genre jumping every few weeks isn't a good look for anyone. Imagine if Kanye West or Michael Jackson when he was alive decided they would become country musicians. Find your niche and stick with it, make it yours, own that shit. With that being said I think it's time for a break down.....

At first listen to the average ear trap isn't all that bad. It has a high tempo typically ranging somewhere between 140 and 160 BPM's so it has a good setting for a dance record. The snare rolls and bass drops are on point when picking the good records, but it still lacks something. Typically trap is set to an urban theme, focusing on what some would call a "Dirty South" style of drum selections. If anyone has followed Hip Hop over the past decade you'll know that Dirty South music kind of set the entire culture back several years. With that in mind, I feel that Trap music is kind of a weak stepping stone for EDM DJ's wanting to branch out into the Urban genres like Rap, R&B, Reggae etc.. Without actually knowing how to spin those genres properly...

Like I said earlier in this post, I'm sure this will draw plenty of negative attention but it's an opinion. If this offends anyone especially DJ's it's probably because deep down you know it's true.
